Aether, The Fifth Element
Aether, The Fifth Element
Everything in nature is made up of five basic elements: earth, water, fire, air, and aether the space element. Knowledge of the five elements allows the yogi to understand the laws of nature and to use yoga to attain greater health, power, knowledge, wisdom and happiness.
These elements are an integral part, not only of our Universal environment, but of the subtle energy systems of the chakras. We have seven chakras, spinning wheels of energy, that run from the base of our spine to the crown of our head. When we experience our connection to the elements we are able to deepen our sense of an inherent relationship to all that’s around and within us. Each chakra represents varying aspects of ourselves from the most physical to the most ethereal.
All yoga practices work on the five elements, whether we know it or not. Through consciously working with the elements, we learn how to attain and maintain health and also how to consciously enjoy a long and fulfilling life based on higher awareness.
The Sanskrit name for aether is akasha. Aether (or ether - space) has the properties of lightness, airiness and spirituality. It has also been equated by some with the concept of consciousness. Yoga practice can help increase one's awareness of aether.
As an element, aether is associated with the throat chakra (vishuddha in Sanskrit) and has the color of vibrant blue. This is because the throat chakra is connected with sound and communication, and it is through aether that sound is said to pass.
Because aether is associated with consciousness, it is possible to bring more of the aether element into any yoga practice by cultivating more mindfulness and awareness. This can be applied to life "off the mat" by living a more conscious life, but it also relates to practice "on the mat."
In a more literal sense, noticing the space between breaths as well as the space around the body as it moves through asanas (or pose) and holds them, can help the practitioner become more attuned to the aether - space that surrounds them.
I am the space between my inhalation and exhalation.
When we raise the vibration of spaciousness, we begin to share our purpose with others by speaking our truth. This truth rises up from the heart and speaks from a place of authenticity, love and compassion. Share your unique voice with the world and trust that what you have to say is worthy!!!
I speak my truth.
There is a profound connection between what we think and the universe, between what we do and the universe, between what we say and the universe. We are connected to it thru the aether.
Nothing is lost. Nothing is forgotten. Everything exists and will continue to exist.
The aether is energy and information.
Throughout space there is energy.
All things are connected creating a oneness.
